We run these free online 'Rehab Conversations' several times throughout the year - to gather, to connect, to share ideas, and to support each other in our learning and practice.
PLEASE SHARE THE INVITATION WIDELY WITH YOUR RETURN-TO-WORK & VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION COLLEAGUES.
The presentation will last for 30 minutes; then we will have 20 minutes for a facilitated, interactive discussion.
Associate Professor Joanna Fadyl is co-director of the Centre for Person Centred Research at AUT University in Auckland. She is known for research in the fields of vocational rehabilitation and the critical-ethical examination of rehabilitation practices (critical rehabilitation studies) and is involved in both national and international research collaborations in these fields. Jo teaches and supervises in the postgraduate health science and rehabilitation programmes at AUT.
Upon registration, you will receive an email with the Zoom link for the event.
Disabled people are positioned in current discourse as wanting and needing to be employed, while facing an enduring problem that maintaining and obtaining work can be a struggle. Current government policies designed to address this skirt around discrimination and place the emphasis on individual actors - including disabled people, employers and civil servants - to 'solve' how inclusion in work can be realised. Discussing her recent policy analysis, Jo will review how those involved in vocational rehabilitation could use a critical analysis of these policies to advocate for change that challenges our broader work structures, not just employers and disabled people, to strive for equity.
Please share the invitation with anyone you think might be interested in joining us for this session. We ask that they register separately so that we can contact them directly if there are any event changes and/or further information to share. Thanks!
NB: We can only make these events free if people become members of the NZRA (so we can pay for the website and event management platform). If you are not already, please consider becoming a paid-up member. It costs NZ$25 per year- a bargain! Join here: https://www.rehabilitation.org.nz/join-us
